🧪🧫Science Week- Answer to Wednesday's question. 'What will happen when you immerse an egg in vinegar for 48 hours?
17th Nov 2023
If you soak an egg in vinegar for 48 hours, the eggshell will absorb the acid and break down or dissolve.
Egg shells contains calcium carbonate and vinegar contains acetic acid. When calcium carbonate and acetic acid react, carbon dioxide is released. The calcium carbonate will become carbon dioxide gas, which will go into the air.
The 🥚 is soft because the carbon floats out of the egg and the egg bounces.
