Ms Sweeney's 5th class and Mr Kennedy 6th class recently attended a "Fighting Words" workshop. The workshop offered free creative writing session. The workshop was highly interactive, fun with lots of ways for students to contribute. The focus of the Story Writing Workshop was on imagination and creativity and everyone worked at their own pace and did all these things and more! The structure allowed for students to participate both orally and through writing, which meant there was a way for everyone to get involved and have a great time inventing new stories.
Their volunteer mentors worked with our young writers to identify key elements of a story and help them write the first half of their story together as a group. The children choose their characters and plot the group story sentence by sentence, editing as they go. In the second half of the workshop, students chose to continue the group story or write a new story of their own. At the end of the session, there was time for students to share their work.
